Interview Tips - Technical Writing

Technical Writing job requires 

1) Experience in documenting application

2) Strong English writing skills

3) Excellent communication skills

4)  Strong knowledge on any Technical Writing tools (Framemaker, Robohelp, MS Visio..)

Most of the companies follow sort of procedure for Technical Writing interviews. Technical Writing will be more focused on Platform Specific. 

Platforms - Health, Insurance, Networking, API, Security, HRMS, Insurance etc..

First Round: It will be a telephonic round, either HR or senior team member will reach out to understand the candidate capabilities well. They will collect information about the past experience and what kind of documents they have created and on which platform. Once they collect the information and if it matching to the role they are looking, they will process it for second roumd


Second Round:  There will be a computer based test. They will check the aptitude level of the candidate and English skills

English Skills:

  • Sentence rephrasing
  • Paragraph precise
  • Sample documentation on  the given scenario
  • Grammar 
Once the person clear this round, they will be moved to third round.

Third Round:
Generally they will give a sample application or scenario and ask candidate to write user guide for that sample in stipulated time.
 Here they will concentrate on grammar, and English skill (in which person candidate is writing document), documentation capabilities, application understanding capabilities.

Once candidate successfully finishes this round, will be moved to manager round. Once manager round is done, HR will negotiate salary and offer will be released.
